Fact About Scholarships, Are They Genuine or Not?

FACTS ABOUT SCHOLARSHIPSAre scholarships real?
In as much as fraudsters can post dubious scholarship announcement to swindle unsuspecting victims. Scholarships are real . Many are enjoying scholarships. I have a couple of friends that have not paid even a dime since their secondary school days.yeah!seriously, they took advantage of Local Government Scholarships, e.t.c.
Are Scholarship Applications free?
There is no free lunch even in Freetown. Absolutely not !!! While only a few scholarship providers will ask for an application fee(please be certain before you make any payment), majority of the scholarships are free. But this does not mean scholarships are free. Many scholarships especially the high paying ones have very stringent requirements besides to make a good application that will stand the competition requires a lot of time. Time is money so scholarship costs. In addition scholarships, need a lot of research because at times they are good scholarships that do not get enough publicity.Hence you may be required to pay a token for SMS alert which on the long run would fetch you a fortune.
Which Scholarship is best for me?
The big question is How much fund do I have?. This does not mean that only indigent students apply for scholarships No!!!. Scholarships tells a lot about a person. Employers are always interested in applicants that have received one form of scholarship or the other, this to an extent show the degree of competition applicants can face.. Scholarship differs both with requirement and funding. The rule of thumb is to apply for the big scholarships(that is scholarships with full funding), but that is not always advisable. If you consider yourself as an averages student and have the necessary funds for a degree while we don`t advise you to leave any scholarship but it may be more profitable to focus on mid paying scholarship with lower competition than the high paying ones with cut throat competition. The likes of the Shell, NLNG etc, always have high number of applicants, so one should not put too much hope in them, but rather, the Local Government Scholarships should be targeted because they are usually lesser applicants,
When to apply?
In scholarships not planning enough is planning to fail. The rule of thumb is to start researching for scholarships about a year before your intended date of study. The competition is often scaring, in addition some scholarship program will require that you already have gained an admission to certain schools. So the ideal thing is while applying for admission, you should already have a mental picture of the scholarships you want to apply. When you know what you are looking for, do not apply until you have read all of the requirements. It means that our intending jambites shave a work to do, they should start checking around for the scholarships that suits them,
What if I am not accepted?
There are only very few people that have got all the scholarships they ever applied for. Please do not get discouraged if you are turned down. Maybe you got no reply after a long time, chances are you did not make it, but to be certain you can write the scholarships providers to confirm. For some scholarship programs, because of the number of people involved they often will reply only successful applicants. To be on a safe side when apply, check to know when you should be expecting results.

Scholarships For Nigerian and Developing Countries in Czech Republic

Scholarships For Nigerians & Developing Countries In Czech Republic, 2014/15

Thanks to a generous contribution from the Czech Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport, the Faculty of Social Sciences is able to offer a limited number of partialscholarships for students of all fee based programs in academic year 2014/15. A total of five scholarships are available, ear-marked for students from developing countries and/or countries going through a process of political and economic transition.
What is on offer
1. Under the terms of this scholarship, students will receive a waiver of school fees for their first semester of study, plus a one-off payment of Kc 50,000 (about 2,050 Euro) as a contribution towards living costs.
2. School fees for the second semester of study will NOT be waived.
3. Although we would like to continue the scholarship scheme in school year 2015/16, this is subject to our receiving further funding for future years. At present, therefore, we cannot guarantee that similar scholarships will be available for students’ second year of study.
How to Apply for the Scholarship
1. Applications for these scholarships are open to all students from developing countries and/or countries going through a process of political and economic transition, who are applying for study in one of our Bachelor’s studies or Master’s studies programmes at Charles University Faculty of Social Sciences from academic year 2014/15.
2. Applications must be made on the form that accompanies this announcement, and must include the following documents:
- completed application form;
- motivation essay of no more than 1000 words, explaining why they need a scholarship, and what they hope to gain from their studies at Charles University;
- two letters of recommendation from teachers, who know the student from their previous studies, including confirmation of the student’s financial need.
Note: The current scholarship holders who are reapplying do not need to submit the two recommendation letters or write the essay. Please include a cover note and one recommendation letter from a Charles University academic who knows you from your studies with your applicatioon.
3. Applications should be sent to Manager, International Office (at the address below). All documents submitted must be originals and written in the English language, or accompanied by certified translations.
4. The deadline for scholarship applications is 30 April 2014. Students who will have problems meeting this deadline due to inefficient or unreliable postal services may, as a temporary measure, submit fax copies and/or scanned copies by e-mail. However, originals must also be sent, and final decisions will not be made until originals have been received.
Selection of Applicants
1. All scholarship applications received by the deadline will be assessed by a Scholarship Review Board, which will recommend five students to receive scholarships to the Dean of the Faculty. The decision of the Board on which students it will recommend for a scholarship will be independent of the deliberations of the Admissions Panel regarding which students to admit. However, only students finally admitted by the Faculty are eligible to become scholarship holders.
2. In addition to the documents submitted by scholarship applicants, the Scholarship Review Board will take into consideration applicants’ results from their earlier studies. Priority will be given to students who have not previously had the opportunity to study abroad.
3. A final decision regarding the students to be offered scholarships will be made by the Dean. The Dean will not enter into correspondence with unsuccessful applicants regarding this decision.
Financial Terms and Conditions
1. Successful scholarship applicants will receive payment at the start of their first semester, no later than one month after they register for their studies. No money will be paid in advance of the students’ arrival in Prague.
2. Before students receive their scholarships, they will also be required to make an advance payment in respect of their school fees for the second semester. This payment will be held as a surety until February 2015, and will thereafter be used to cover the cost of the student’s classes in the second semester. No further charge will be made for school fees in school year 2014/15.
3. In the event that students are forced to terminate their studies for disciplinary reasons, the surety they have paid for their school fees in the second semester is not returnable. However, in the event that students are unable to continue their studies for medical reasons, an adequate refund can be negotiated.
4. Scholarships are awarded for school year 2014/15, and may not be deferred to later years.
5. In the event that the Faculty of Social Sciences succeeds in obtaining the necessary funding to continue this scholarship scheme in school year 2015/16, existing scholarship holders will be given the opportunity to reapply. However, any extension of the scholarship will be conditional on students achieving satisfactory results in their first year.
6. Scholarships will not be offered for a third year of study (master’s degree) or for a fourth year of study (bachelor’s degree) under any circumstances.

Apply For Scholarships For African Writers

Scholarship for African Writers, Apply Now!!!

The Miles Morland Foundation (MMF) will give up to three Morland Writing Scholarships per year starting next year (2014).
The scholarships will be open to anyone born in Africa or whose parents were born in Africa. If you want to write a full length book, either fiction of nonfiction, this is a fantastic opportunity. Here is a bit about the scholarship.
Award
The scholars will receive a grant of £18,000 (about N 4.5 million), paid in monthly instalments over the course of one year
What the scholar must do in return
In return for this the scholars will agree that 20% of whatever they subsequently receive from what they write during the year of the scholarship will be paid to the MMF which may be used to support other promising writers and possibly to expand the scholarship scheme in later years.
Qualifications
To qualify for the scholarship a candidate must submit a piece of published work, or an excerpt from a piece of published work, of between two and seven thousand words to be evaluated by a panel set up by the MMF which will include MMF trustees and past participants in the Caine Prize.
The scholarships will be awarded based on these submissions although the Foundation may also wish to question certain candidates or ask for other work.
Proposed Work
The candidates will be expected to submit a brief description of the work they intend to write during the scholarship year (ideally 200 – 500 words).
It should be a new work, not a work in progress.
The proposed work must be in English as must all candidacy submissions.
Also a statement of fewer than 100 words about yourself and your background should be included.
It is not the intention of the MMF to give editorial or publishing advice to scholars.
They will have to find their own agents and publishers although it is to be hoped that over the years the Morland Scholarships will come to be recognized as an incubator of talent. Works which relate to Africa are likely to be preferred by the judges.
Scholarship Requirement
The only condition imposed on the scholars during the year of their scholarship is that they must write.
They will be asked to submit by e-mail at least 10,000 new words every month until they have finished their book.
The scholarship will terminate if a scholar fails to submit the required work on time unless prior authorization has been received.
The Foundation is happy to support fiction or non-fiction but not poetry, plays or screen-plays.
The scholarship is intended for writers who want to write a full-length book of 80,000 words or more.
The closing date for submissions for the first series of writing scholarships will be October 31st 2013.
The scholarships will be announced in December 2013 and will run for the whole of calendar 2014.
The Trustees reserve the right to vary the terms and requirements of the scholarships at their discretion

Combating Issues Of multiple Scholarship Awardees

COMBATING ISSUE OF MULTIPLE SCHOLARSHIP AWARDEES

Stakeholders of the various Oil and Gas Industry Scholarship Schemes have been called upon to adopt the use of automated technology as a solution in awarding multiple Oil and Gas scholarships to a single beneficiary.
Managing Director, Dragnet Solutions Limited, Robert Ikazoboh, gave the advice during the “One Awardee, One Award” roundtable discussion organised by the firm for the International Oil Companies (IOC) operating in Nigeria. The event which was recently held in Lagos had in attendance representatives from the various concerned IOCs such as Mobile, Chevron, NAOIC/AGIP, NLNG as well as NAPIMS.
In his keynote presentation, Ikazoboh bemoaned the popular practice among students where an undergraduate is a beneficiary of multiple scholarships from either the same or similar IOCs scheme, an act which he condemned and described as a “theft of opportunities’. He also noted that if left unchecked, it could give rise to other forms of malpractices.
He also added that a multiple awardee of Oil and Gas Industry based scholarships deprives a countless number of indigent undergraduates who are in dire need of such sponsorship, an equal opportunity to be beneficiaries thus, defeating the intended purpose for the establishment of the scheme by the IOCs.
The Dragnet boss identified the inefficiency of the manual processing method deployed in the verification of candidates’ profiles, absence of a sensitization campaign and strict enforcement among others, as some of the factors responsible for the high prevalence of the act among awardees.
Dragnet Solutions, a Screening Solutions firm in Nigeria, in response to the need to find a lasting solution to the challenge, has taken the initiative to develop a central portal for scholarship and bursary management called Scholastisca.
The Scholastisca portal builds and stores the profiles of candidates applying to the various Oil and Gas Scholarship Schemes on a database through biometric technology by ensuring that no candidate has multiple profiles. The hallmark of Scholastisca is that each candidate is given a unique Identification after ensuring that an awardee can only benefit from one Oil and Gas scholarship.
While acknowledging that the issue of multiple scholarship is a moral one, the various participants at the event who have at one time or the other been victims of the act, applauded Dragnet Solutions for its innovation which they believed would go a long way in tackling the issue and ensure that many less privileged students benefit from their Corporate Social Responsibility activity for disadvantaged undergraduates. They also agreed that there was need to work out the modalities of the proposed solution.
